Among all the destinations that can be chosen through the DUETI of the IUT Paris Descartes, Groningen is far from being the warmest and sunniest one.
Indeed, the city is located at the very top of the country, just 30 kilometers away from the northern coasts, making it probably the coldest student city in the Netherlands. In addition, the feeling is very strongly increased due to the wind that the city is suffering.
Rain is also very often present. We call it the Dutch Weather! It arrives without warning, changes as fast as it appears and make us heavily wet.

Thus, when I arrived in September, I was able to enjoy a rather hot and sunny month (which worried the locals a lot) before experimenting this typical Dutch Weather.
I'm not going to lie to you, I had a long time of adaptation, first of all because I didn't have the right clothes, a warm enough coat, adapted gloves (my bad). But also because the sun played a big part in my mood day.
But finally, after a few months, all the positive aspects of the city and the incredible life of the Erasmus student took over.

All you need are a few tips such as rain prediction applications and you're done. Indeed, Groningen and more generally the Netherlands have ultra-developed rain and temperature applications that make it possible to know the weather conditions in real time. It's ideal for cycling between showers!
As a result one of the only negative consequence is that when you go out. In fact going out with a coat means to pay the cloakroom in club, but I am sure you will integrate this expense perfectly into your budget.
So if you're a little discouraged at the end of this article, it may be normal, but know that weather is probably one of the only negative things about the city. And it is therefore very well balanced.
To conclude don't forget that the Dutch are still the most welcoming and friendly people in Europe (much more than the French), This shows that finally the weather, we get used to it.
