I will try to show strong impartiality, of course.

o The cuisine

That is true, it is difficult to compete with French cuisine, but if the Netherlands is known for many things all over the world, it does not include cooking.

The young Dutch people I have met say it themselves: there is no typical Dutch cuisine. After a year, I would be almost unable to talk about one typical local dish. Well, there are two or three fried foods like fricadelle (a kind of fried sausage) or Kroket (cheese balls) but come on.

In fact, the Dutch are not the best in most of the foods they are proud of.

Indeed, the Dutch are very proud of their fries, however the name is "French" fries and the Belgians are better than them.

The Dutch are very proud of their cheese but the French and Italians are also very good at it.

As a result, when you come to Groningen, your diet will be very similar to what your student's mouth knows. Pasta, pasta and pasta.

Come on don’t be sad, I still give you some good address:

- Ke Kou

This Chinese restaurant makes incredible noodle wokes at affordable prices

- Happy Italy

You will never see such a good price/size balance. Indeed it will be possible for you to order the biggest pizza you have ever seen for only 4€95.

- De Drie Gesuster

This place is mentioned in all my articles but here it is for its wonderful tapas that it is possible to order.

o Le savoir vivre

That is true, I live in Paris, a city that is not known for its very friendly people. However, the friendliness of the Dutch is not a myth, it is a reality.

Indeed, it is very common for a Dutch person to help you willingly if you are looking for your way, to help people with their luggage to climb the stairs, to smile to each other in the street. Finally, it is not surprising to see two neighbors in the train discussing all along the way while they do not know each other.

To be honest, it is changing and it feels good.

o The English

We know that the French do not excel in their fluency in Shakespeare's language. However, there is no doubt that the Dutch are generally very good in English and this can be easily noticed, especially at university.

For the new generation, this is probably due to the fact that movies or series are often in English with Dutch subtitles.
